County Intermediate Football Championship
Glenville 1-14
Mitchelstown 0-12Â
Â
Glenville and Mitchelstown clashed in round 2 of the intermediate football championship on Sunday afternoon last played in an excellently prepared Ballyhooly grounds. This was important game for both sides as the loser of this encounter would be knocked out of championship and face into the relegation playoffs. In front of a big attendance, it was  Glenville who made the best start and kicked the opening point through Josh. Then Mitchelstown took a foothold in the game for the next 10 minutes and scores 4 points without reply. Glenville then started to play good football for the remainder of the half and with scores Josh (2), Shane and William, the scores were level at 5 points a piece with 10 minutes to go before the break. Both sides trade 3 points each in the closing minutes off the half, our coming form Adam (2) and William to leave the sides deadlocked at half time 0-8 to 0-8. Glenville had a brilliant start to the second half with James kicking the opening score and then Dylan kicked the only goal of the game which snuck into the top corner. This gave us a 4-point cushion and we held on to this cushion for the remainder of the game. Further points in the second from Shane, Kevin, James (2) and Sean saw us run out worthy winners on a score line of 1-14 to 0-12. This was a tremendous performance from our lads. It was a real panel effort. Defensively, Dave and the backs defended brilliantly throughout the hour and we our midfielders and forwards were always dangerous in attack. The impact of the substitutes proved to be key with everyone contributing hugely to this win. This win now sees in to Round 3 of the championship where we meet Dromtariffe. This again will be a big test for out young team, but this win will bring huge confidence to the squad. The game against Dromtarrife will take place next Saturday night August 31st at 6.30pm in Ballyclough. It would be great to see a big Glenville support again on Saturday night to cheer on the lads.
