Glenville Football Club
County Intermediate Football Championship
Glenville 2-10
Dromtariffe 0-19
Six days after an excellent victory over Mitchelstown, Glenville clashed with Dromtariffe in round 3 of the intermediate football championship on Saturday evening. This was always going to be a big ask for our lads being without two key players on the night also didn’t help matters. In front of a big crowd in Ballyclough, it was Glenville who were slow out of the blocks and Dromtarriffe raced in to a 4-point lead. Glenville then got into the game with a well taken point from James and then Dylan scored a brilliant goal to bring the sides level after the opening quarter. The rest of the half was very even, and it was score for score until half time. Our points coming from James, Josh, Eddie and Dan to leave us behind by one point at the interval. On the resumption, James kicked over a brilliant free to level the game again. Then, Dromtarrife got on top and kicked over 4 unanswered points heading into the final quarter. Glenville battled back and points from James got it back to 2 points margin again. Dromtariffe replied with 3 more points to take a 5-point lead. Glenville to there credit battled gamely and a goal from James and a point from Dan brought it back to the minimum heading for injury time. Dromtariffe replied with 2 more points to leave them 3 ahead. Glenville battled bravely to get a goal to level but unfortunately time ran out and we were defeated by 3 points. A disappointing result on the night for the lads but in fairness to this young side, they battled to death and gave everything, showing tremendous spirt throughout. This is now the end of the campaign for 2019 but huge positives can be taken from our 3 championship games this year. No doubt the lads will come back stronger for 2020.
